I am looking forward to working on this module and have started to read the relevant course reader and other suggested reading material. My circumstances have changed significantly since I completed the first module, and I am considering what issue to research.
After a fruitless year of being unable get work as a performer I was successful in obtaining a part and I am now on tour performing in a production of “The Happy Prince”. But that means I will be unable to attend the campus sessions. I will really be learning at a distance and will rely on feedback from other course members as well as university staff.
Also as a self-employed performer I am finding it difficult to identify an issue, which will satisfy the University as being suitable for the course criteria and relevant to my professional practice.
At this point in time I am very much at the beginning of understanding the Penelope Hanstein diagram in the course reader and will “blog” my thoughts when I am able to fully understand it and put my thoughts in order.
Great to hear that you are working Verity! I am sure if you remain in active contact with the other students and academic advisors, you will still feel secure and able to carry on with the course even though you may be far away. Isn't it great what the internet allows us to do these days....
ReplyDeleteIf you feel a bit stuck getting started, I would recommend doing something Rosemary recently suggested which is a 'Capability Self Assessment' - I am going to do one as well and it should help me to identify gaps in my professional knowledge that I need to fill in. Rosemary's blog post will explain it much better than me so check it out - it also explains what they did last week at The Campus Session.
Looking forward to hearing some of your questions. I have started a SIG on facebook simply called 'Theatre, TV and Film' - I hope you will come and join in with me and share some ideas. I think it might be just me and you that are actors so I am sure we can help each other.

Hi Verity congratulations on getting the work. I would say you should just start putting out questions don't judge whether they are suitable for the university! we can help you shape them if they need it. The idea is that the places you don't feel comfortable with or feel you need more work on are the very areas you could work on with the questions. Maybe you have something about the changes in a persons life as they go from paid work to lay-off to touring ect... How do people cope with the unexpected changes? What are the strategies people use to maintain a balance as circumstances change?

Hey Stephanie, Thank you it's going really well just very exhausting and challenging to keep up with the uni work which is exactly why it has taken me so long to reply and im sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteI think it would be a great idea to link up as we are like you said doing the same profession. Our projects may not end up being very similar as in acting as you will know there are a vast many projects to focus on, but will still be very beneficial as im sure similar questions and topics will emerge in our SIG's.
I will join your facebook group now and share some ideas with you it would be great to help eachother out!
Verity
